The Association promotes classes, courses, exhibitions, lectures and discussions.
We use our combined strength to try to ensure supplies of relevant materials, tools and books.
We award bursaries for further study, both at formal courses and for periods of travel.
We
publish a Newsletter as a regular means of communication between
all those interested in these crafts.
We organise several events each year in different parts of Britain:
- an Annual General Meeting with lecture
- a summer event
- a Spring School and a Summer School with several different courses
We produce instructional and documentary DVDs on classic baskets and are developing a slide library
All these activities and resources are available exclusively or at reduced rates to members
We began in 1975 from a group of makers and enthusiasts and have grown over 25 years into an association of around 1,000 members with diverse interests. We include:
- full-time and part-time professional workers who learned their crafts through long apprenticeship or course work and practice
- keen amateur makers
- material and equipment suppliers
- contemporary fibre artists producing indoor or outdoor sculpture from natural, manufactured or recycled materials
- enthusiasts with an interest in the form and texture of craft objects and their history.
